”Green hydrogen society – gigawatt scaling for EU’s CO2 neutrality”

Staged under this motto, the management conference brings together the entire value chain of green hydrogen:
Energy suppliers, automotive and industrial companies, technology manufacturers and research institutions connect with H2 solution providers to discuss how the transition to large scale green hydrogen application in Europe can succeed.

Bringing the future technology to application together

The conference is organized along 6 strategic pillars to discussion hydrogen use. These run through both conference days and guide the content contributions of the decision-makers.

1. FINANCING & POLITICS

The ideas, engineering skills and the know how are available. However, only few hydrogen projects contribute the large scale solutions and are financially viable. Many projects and companies from traditional industries also look for incentives and partners to access capital helping to quickly ramp-up. How can companies be supported? What requirements must be met in order to apply for funding?

2. PRODUCTION SCALING

In order to achieve climate neutrality in Europe, green hydrogen is the answer for nearly all high energy demanding applications. Hydrogen Europe estimates the EU’s hydrogen demand for 2030 at ~20 million tons. To achieve this ambitious goal, production capacity expansion and rapid scaling is key. During the conference, we will hear from leading companies on how capacity and scaling increases can be realized. Where can we produce the green hydrogen in and beyond Europe? What technologies are most efficient to get as much energy as possible as hydrogen? Do other hydrogen colors matter for the transition? When will we see the first gigawatt electrolyzers?

3. STORAGE AND TRANSPORT

There are many ways to transport and store hydrogen, whether liquid or gaseous. The focus is, on the one hand, on using the existing infrastructure and, on the other hand, on making not only the production but also the transport ecological. The conference will take a closer look at the various processes, possibilities and safety. We will learn about the difficulties and current solutions available on the market. We will also have a look at chemical transformations to faciliate storage and transport.

4. INDUSTRIAL USE

Hydrogen is currently produced mainly from hydrocarbons (grey) and is used worldwide as a basic material in a variety of chemical processes. Green hydrogen generated by wind, solar or water power in particular is expected to displace natural gas and crude oil as raw materials and energy carriers in order to realise the goal of CO2 reduction in industry. How can the conversion be ensured? Which industries should first access green h2 to reduce CO2 emissions most? How can fossil fuels be replaced by green hydrogen and what does the transformation process look like?

5. MOBILITY APPLICATION

In addition to industry, mobility is a major contributor to the carbon footprint. With the help of e.g. fuel cells or hydrogen combustion engines, green hydrogen can be converted into electricity and is thus suitable for emission-free transport or heavy haulage of people and goods, without diesel, petrol or battery – in aviation, railway, automotive, heavy duty trucks and shipping. Why is there so little supply on the market? In which mobility sector does it make sense to use green hydrogen and why? How can an infrastructure be built and standards be set?

6. ENERGY AND HEAT SUPPLY

The controlled reaction of hydrogen and oxygen generates not only electrical energy but also heat, which can be used for heating or hot water. Similar to coal and gas green hydrogen can serve as an enery carrier to supply electricity and heat at the right spot and right time – independent of the volatility of natural circumstances. How a technical and safe implementation can succeed in one’s own four walls and much more will be examined in more detail at the conference.
